THE TOWN OF LAKE PARK WELCOMES PBSO CAPTAIN TERRIA SANFORD

There’s a new Captain in Town, and we are excited to welcome her. Captain Terria Sanford became the new Commander of the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) District 10 at the end of September.

A Florida native, Captain Sanford joined PBSO as a Law Enforcement Explorer, a role that planted the seeds for a lifelong commitment to service and law enforcement. She graduated from Glades Central High School in 2006 and then went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from Florida Atlantic University and a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Barry University.

Since becoming a sworn PBSO Deputy in 2009, she has worked in Road Patrol, Narcotics, Homicide, Gangs, and Internal Affairs. She became a Captain in April of this year, and attributes her advancement through the ranks to the “valuable lessons, challenges and opportunities to grow” derived from each of her assignments, as well as “the support of mentors and colleagues” who she referred to as “amazing men and women.”

But Captain Sanford is also exceptional in her own right. Her skills and talents, combined with her commitment to service, community and partnership, led to her becoming the first female African American Captain in PBSO Law Enforcement (PBSO’s Corrections division currently has a female African American Major). At 37 years old, Captain Sanford is also one of PBSO’s youngest Captains.

Captain Sanford is dedicated to ensuring the safety of our community and helping to preserve everything that makes Lake Park so special. We look forward to working closely with our new PBSO Captain to make a positive difference in the Town.
